Forecasters warned that a super strong El Niño event was in the making last September. Today they are standing by that prediction, adding this El Niño will be a whopper . . . possibly one of the strongest on record.
They also offered details on how this weather event will affect precipitation and temperatures this winter.
NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center foretells of:
Cooler and wetter weather in the Southern Tier States.
Above-average temperatures in the West and across the Northern Tier.
Above-average precipitation in the Southwest, parts of the central and southern Plains, as well as the Lower Mississippi Valley, and the Southeast north to the Mid-Atlantic.
Above-average precipitation for the Pacific Northwest, northern Rockies, and Great Lakes regions.
“A strong El Niño is in place and should exert a strong influence over our weather this winter,” adds Mike Halpert of NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center.
“While temperature and precipitation impacts associated with El Niño are favored, El Niño is not the only player. Cold-air outbreaks and snowstorms will likely occur at times this winter.” Read More of the NOAA prediction Here.
